I can remember saying this phrase of when life gives you lemons, make lemonade to my irritated wife as I drove our family car away from our new family home without even going inside after we had driven 1200 miles just to get there. Unfortunately, the house key was not where it was supposed to be and the guy responsible for the key had left town.
I imagine this would have angered most people, and it angered me too, but instead of getting all bent out of shape I just pointed the family car southeast and kept driving. Hey, I’ve always wanted to see the beaches of Key West. It seemed like a great time to show my children the southernmost point of the United States. I figured, heck, we’re going on a family vacation to Key West, and we are going to have a wonderful scenic drive down old Route 1. We can even stop at Key Largo since I have always been a fan of that old Humphrey Bogart movie of the same name.
Eventually, my family got over the lemons, not being able to get into our new house, and enjoyed the lemonade, the beaches of Florida’s Key West and the hotel pool. We even stopped and ran into and out of the famous Key Largo Club on the way down. Well, at least I did. Hey, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity.
So, now I must ask you something. Is life handing you a few lemons? I am sure that it is. You wouldn’t be human if it wasn’t. Your challenge here is to figure out how to make some sweet lemonade out of those sour lemons. Think about how sweet that lemonade-making is when compared to the alternative of lemon sucking.
Now teens, go learn, lead, and lay the way to a better world for all of us. Remember that when life hands you lemons, don’t sulk. Instead, make some delicious lemonade, as well as some sweet memories. And once again, thanks in advance for all that you do, and all that you will do…
