Many years ago I climbed up into an army jeep parked in front of my parents’ home. A bright-eyed army recruiter asked me if I was prepared. My action to his question was, “I guess I’m as ready as I’ll ever be.”
I had no other way of understanding that on that hot early summer season morning that phrase of, “I think I’m as prepared as I’ll ever be.” would end up being a major part of my life’s journey. Here are some examples: When my best-man, standing beside me in the back foyer of the church, asked me if I was actually ready to get married. When my new bride later on asked me if I was all set for that huge task interview. And then there was that time when my father asked if I was ready to be a daddy that late night in the healthcare facility. And obviously I can’t forget that time when my first-born kid went off to her very first day of school.
I have consistently utilized that mantra ever since that time I sat in that army jeep at 18 years old, of “I guess I’m as ready as I’ll ever be.” I have used it a lot in my life, and due to the fact that of it I have actually lived a lot of life throughout my years. I can just picture what life events are coming next … Well, no matter what they are, I hope I continue to have the guts of that 18 years of age who responded, “I think I’m as ready as I’ll ever be.” Hey, take it from me, doing something about it when we are not completely all set is all right since it means that we are doing something about it and living our lives fully.
Now teens, go learn, lead, and lay the way to a better world for all of us. Keep in mind that we are as prepared as we are ever going to be, and we need to face our next challenge right here, today. So let’s dive in with both feet. And once again, thanks in advance for all that you do, and all that you will do …
