“Did you do your own homework?” I ask my student. “Come on mister … you know I don't like homework.” Over the years I have heard something like this too many times. In fact, I think now I am running into this response more than I did just a short decade ago. I have to admit that this lack of effort is worrying me a bit. But … all is not lost … there is still hope … We can still win.
But first, check out this insight: If so many people are unwilling to do their own homework, or go the extra mile, especially when things get tough, think of what that means for the rest of us who are doing our own homework and going the extra mile in all that we do. Going the extra mile, or doing our own homework, automatically puts us, hard workers, ahead of most people because we have already developed the habit of doing more, or doing extra. We are more responsible. Don't worry. Turning the word responsible around just means that we are able to respond. And isn't that what we really want in this life; to be able to respond?
You see, where most people stop, is usually the same point where responsible winners are just getting warmed up and ready to start for real. So, if you are one of these winners that keep going … CONGRATULATIONS! Just keep doing what you are already doing … and if you are a person who is frustrated because you have not seen positive results yet, don't worry. Stay the course. Rome wasn't built in one day, and neither will your colossal dream life be built in one day. However, over time it will be built as long as you continue your habit of doing extra. And that doing extra all starts with doing your own homework.
Now teens, go learn, lead, and lay the way to a better world for all of us. Remember it pays always to do your own homework. And once again, thanks in advance for all that do, and all that you will do …
